  2. Your first step would be to apply for admission at MIT. Once accepted, the school would send you a Form I-20, which you will need to obtain an F-1 student visa. Being accepted by the school does not in any way guarantee that you will be granted the necessary visa to travel to the United States.

In order to receive consideration for an F-1 visa, you must be able to demonstrate that you have sufficient financial resources to pay your school and living expenses. You must also provide evidence that you have compelling ties to your native country (social, economic, family, etc.), in order to demonstrate that you will return home when your visa has expired. You must have the necessary prerequisites for study; for example, you must be able to demonstrate a sufficient command of the English language.

You must also have a current and valid passport from your country of citizenship, and you are required to maintain that passport throughout your entire stay.

I've linked to a page that lists the admissions requirements for all of the MIT graduate programs. Scroll down and you'll find the information for the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, which includes the university's program in communications.

    Good luck!
