Why in India cricket players get more attention than football players ?
We have lot of talented sports men( hockey,athletics,football etc) but they are not getting enough attention from people or government why ?

Yes we people give more importance to cricket than any other game such as football.

- I doubt that sania mirza is a cricketer.........!!! well...the basic reason is the fan following....billions watch cricket and love it all over india....I doubt that even 10% of indians knw the names of thier football players...or even hockey whihc is thier national sport...and the fact that cricketers get more sponsors n media hype is again primarily related 2 the cricket fan following by the mass numbers....and ofcorse indian cricket team is better than tier hockey n fotball team at international level

- You asked cricket players............than football players. As comparing to other sports Cricket is successful in India because its thrilling win quality against good opponents like Australia,Pakistan,England,Sou... Africa etc.
- I think cricket is the only sport in India where u can support your team and expect them to win, because we got some talented cricketers. Looking at football, you hardly see them play well so they dont get enough attention to develop or get sponsors. Look at sania mirza, people really need to excell to gain support. But then Football is a team effort and invididual efforts will not give wins or recognition.
- Because, like Australia, it is a warm climate, so long hot summers allow more time for the cricket season. Therefore in those sorts of countries, the summer game is more popular.

Ya very few are interested , must b some organisation must b formed to promoted all kinds of sport in India...

- Because 1.government or people are influenced and driven by big industrial houses.
2. Criket is not a sport, It is being a big industry run by big industrial houses using the non-sport (criket) players as the puppets in their hands.
3.These puppets are lime lighted as sports persons to satisfy their vested interests.
4. therefore, the deserving true sportsmen and Athlets are intentionaly neglected by the Government and the people
- Because their team is much much better in Cricket, than Football or Hockey. The difference between the Cricket-team and Football-team is the difference of Sky & Earth. But the difference is not that bigger between Cricket-team and Hockey-team, but still. Look at the way their Hockey-team is playing in the World-Cup in Germany. They get thrashed every day from every team, like: England and many others´. Do they have players like Tendulkar or Dravid in Hockey? Won´t ask about Football, because in Football they don´t even have player like Piyush Chawla.

- Winning matches is most important thing to get popularity,Considering international ratings, in Cricket we are proffessional, but in football we are no way near of even a European league club. That's the only reason, Indian Cricket players get more attention than football players.
