- I think he has won 2 national awards so far
first one for ZAKHM in 1997 or something and second one for LEGEND OF BHAGAT SINGH in 2003
infact his second national award was a bit of a controvesy as film's director Prakash Jha was in the jury !

- He has won two Best actor National awards.
The first was for Zakhm directed by Mahesh Bhatt in 1998.
The second was for playing the legendary revolutionary Bhagat Singh in the movie "The Legend Of Bhagat Singh" directed by Raj Kumar Santoshi in 2002.
The controversy for Bhagat Singh emanated from the fact that Prakash Jha who was heading the jury was directing Ajay Devgun in Ajay's next movie (which also happened to be Ajay's home production) I.e. "Dil Kya Karen".
