Why is cricket given so much of importance in India?

People in India are soo crazy about cricket. When it comes to tennis or any other sport most of the don't even care.

   From the batting side everyone expects the batsman to hit a six.
   From the bowling side everyone expects the bowler to bowl out the batsman and they expect some spectacular catches.
   It creates excitement and eagerness in each and every ball.Everyone loves it.
